Looking after a New G310R

Hi All,

I just purchased a brand new G310R and I am very excited.

As a first time motorcycle owner, what are some tips to adopt for the first 1000km of riding? Is it bad to shift a certain way or rev very high early on? And should there be a speed limit to keep to before the engine has had 1000km?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations and enjoy Your bike.

Limitation for the back in is simple, I just finished mine Yesterday.
For the first 300 Km or 186.4 Miles try not to rev the bike too often, do not exceed the 4000 to 5000 RPM, this will limit and answer Your question about the max speed. You can overtake but do it ever so gently. May I advise You to play a lots with the gear box as well during this period, it will ease a lots afterwards.
Then after try to limit Yourself from exceeding the 5000 to 6000 RPM until the first service. I allow myself to go at 7000 RPM for a minute while heckling the engine temperatures for a minutes when I reached 750 Km or 466 Miles, then up to 9000 RPM on my way to the first service. It is my experience as I had all the bikes below brand new that a little restrain for a little time makes Your Bike a better machine in the long run.

Other than that ride it as You see fit and happy too.

The recommended engine run-in procedure is on page 51 of your bikes's user manual, Jim310. Iíve had three BMWs now, and after following their recommendations, Iíve never had to add any oil in between service intervals.

Like the others said, however to add a little detail that I didn't know at first; when shifting up or down occasionally you may find yourself in the " -- " gear. If that happens (it happened 2-3 times to me) just let go of the clutch slightly until you're on gear again.
