A custom seat is definitely the best way to go - but can be expensive and your butt may not like it any better than the stock saddle - requiring another brand or a rework. Aftermarket seats may also jack you up higher than the stock - an issue if you have short legs.
I have an Airhawk on my Tiger Explorer with almost 40K happy miles on it (the Airhawk, the TEx has more than 40K - but they weren't happy miles pre-Airhawk).
Relatively cheap, you modify nothing, so other options are still open, and it works incredibly well. Need to try it on my 310GS (I have Short Leg Syndrome).
