High mileage bikes

I’m looking to buy a 310gs to commute and found a 700gs which I think would be better for me on highways with bigger motor it has 14k miles is that a lot or are these bikes tanks and go the distance? Not sure what’s considered high mileage for these bikes the guy has all service paperwork from bmw and it’s real clean thanks!

I don't think 14k is too much and for sure the 700 will be better for longer highway stretches.

I have one of each, and they are both great bikes in their own right. The 700 does breath easier on the highway well up into the mid and high 70mphs, but the 310 does well in the high 60s to low 70s also. There are more luggage options for the 700 as they have been around longer. The 310 is a deffinate hoot of an around town bike and gets better gas mileage if that is a concern, but does have a smaller tank so the range is shorter till the low fuel light comes on.
Hope this helps instead of confusing things.
I've put 10k on the 700 this past year and 3k on 310 since october.

14 k is not much at all for a 700GS. I have one myself along with the 310r. The GS has 33k on it and has been flawless, nothing but regular maintenance. I guess the valve adjustment is the big ticket item, and mine hasn't needed done yet (probably at 36k service). Service people tell me they are not having issue with them and have customers with well over 100k on them-I am sure we will see higher miles as the bike ages. Which is a better bike for you depends on your commute. When freeway is wide open I much prefer the 700GS but when it is stop and go, and I am lane filtering or splitting, no contest, the 310. I strongly prefer the 700 on multiway trips. Ideally you would have both , but if you have to pick, look closely at your needs.

A modern bike should see well over 100,000 miles if the oil and filters are changed at appropriate intervals, assuming it is not being abused by poor riding technique. That 700 is barely run in.

I have 55,000kms or 32,000 miles and it runs as good as the day I bought it. I did four iron butts and have run it hard. Its a champ! And on a side note, I changed the oil every 5,000kms (3,000 miles) just to be on the safe side. Oil filter changed every second change.
