Initial Service

After 18 days, got the first service done on Wednesday (2 days ago), had 992 km on the clock.

Dealers were Cyclespot BMW in Takapuna (Auckland's North Shore - which is nothing like the North Shore on O'ahu) - they are agents for Yamaha, BMW, KTM, Ducati, Norton, Husqvarna, Victory and Indian, so they have a combined workshop.
Bike was done inside an hour and a half while I waited - as arranged, I arrived first thing to be first done. They have a nice new coffee shop and showroom as well, so the wait was very pleasant, nice coffee, nice pie.......

All up cost was NZ $250, a bit more than I thought it would be.

How much do bike services for something like the G310R usually cost?

I checked with my dealer here in Northern Virginia and they estimated the first service on the 310 to be around US$300. Seems pretty steep considering I just paid US$293 yesterday for the 6k service on my K1600 GTL. Price included 5 quarts of oil, gasket ring, air filter element, oil filter and labor. Not sure how many quarts of oil are needed for the 310, but certainly not 5 quarts.

Has anyone else done their first service in the US, and if so, how much did you pay?

Thanks,

Ian

In the UK, when I had the first service done, they tried to charge me for 4 litres of oil instead of 2 Litres. Final bill was about £144 which works out at about 180$ US.

Thanks,
On the 310R the usual parts billed would be oil (2 liter), filter, drain plug washer
Cost seem to vary quite a lot from dealer to dealer. Another topic gathering feedback from users on the same topic: https://www.g310rforum.com/forum/305-...service-3.html
You can see what the mechanic is supposed to do on it here

$236 in Texas for initial service. Stated book shows 1.9 hours of labor. That includes $25 for oil disposal fee.

Hate those disposal fees. First it started with tires and now oil. Makes you wonder what's next. I heard somewhere that eventually we might be taxed for riding/driving something that doesn't fit some "green" transportation criteria.

Rather funny that they charge a disposal fee when the dealer gets paid first for the oil by the person getting the bike serviced, and then by the company that collects the used oil to recycle it. Then the recycled oil is resold to a consumer once again to restart the cycle. Here in California I know of a few companies that were being paid about 25 cents per gallon for used motor oil, and others that would pick it up free so they could recycle it. Also here in Calif. a lot of people collect it and reprocess it at home for diesel fuel along with vegetable oils from fast food restaurants that they get for free.

My dealer in Baton Rouge said $150 for initial service. I told him some of you guys were paying $250-$300 and he said those dealers are assholes lol.
