New biker, new G310R owner in London, UK

Hello all,

I just put the deposit down on a G310R and I thought it would be a good idea to get involved on the forum!

Short bio:
  • First time rider, passed my test this month.
  • Former supercar magazine driver/writer.
  • Very into drifting previously.
  • Changed job and moved to London where I can't justify having a car and can't get press cars anymore.
  • Jumped into biking to retain some fun in my life.
  • Can't insure a S1000RR so building experience and NCD on G310R!

Ordered a White (Motorsports decals) G310R w/ Yoshimura exhaust system.

Any tips and advice off the bat?

310 is better than the S1000 - it might last longer than a week in London!

Welcome! Have you met any issue picking up the bike? My dealer said they have stop sale now, New York, US. I'm not sure about UK.

have fun ... take it easy ... remember you are totally invisible to car drivers in London, they will try and kill you without even realising it.!!
.
"Survival Skills" = Kevin (london based) will do you a great course in avoiding the enevitable spills that await.

I have visited my brother in London on my Duke 390. That bike and the BMW G310 are probably the best bikes to ride in London. Not too big but not too small, fast but not silly.
Fast enough to see off scooters.
Unlikely to attract the thieves like a bigger bike.
You’ll have a great time on it.

My tips would be understanding what if any additional locks to put on the bike, and ensuring you have the skills to ride with minimal risk of accidents. You may have received enough training to get your license, I don't know how that works in the UK. Enjoy riding, these bikes are a lot of fun in the city.

Good comment Cees,
being trained to pass the test is so different to riding in the real world.
[applies to cars & bikes, kids passing their test think that they are now Lewis Hamilton.]
