Is the 1st service only based on mileage? I got my bike in November and it’s been about 6 months now since I got it. I live in Mass so just started to get good riding weather with just 120 miles on it.

Yes, between 600-700 miles. I bought mine in November as well and just had it serviced three weeks ago.

Okay, I will get the parts from the dealer and take some pictures. I may even see about getting an invoice through the auto shop I am a partner in. I just do not want to pay $300 for $60 in parts and to inspect a chain when I can do all that myself.

Get that in writing from your dealer.
They will charge you a half hour labor to reset the service reminder, the usual minimum at most stealerships.
First service also includes hooking up the PCM/ECU and reading any codes and doing software updates if any.

Did the first maintenance today at the dealer for the 1000 km run-in; only Ä105 including oil and filter change, inspection, rear preload adjusted (for my weight) and chain tensioning.

This is such @$#%. The first maintenance service is so easy to do. I'm going to do it myself.
If the bike ever fails because of a design issue, they better warranty it. My own personal attorney (the wife) will take them to California small claims (under $7000) if she has to.

I'm going to treat this motorcycle like any other new car purchased in the US. If I can do my own car maintenance, there is no reason I can't do it for a motorcycle.

My local dealer wants $500 for oil and filter change with possible chain adjustment? **** no!
