My first 1000kms opinions

Hi all!
Just wanted to share my thoughts and opinions on the G310R, hopeful it can be helpful to others.

My specs:
Height: 179cm
Weight: 71kgs

Equipment Installed:
-RAM mount for phone
-SW-Motech Drybag 180
-Tank pad

Dislikes:
-Electrical wire heat shrinks – poorly sleaved
-Weak headlight bulb
- Foot peg plate - rough/soft cast alloy
- Foot pegs / brake pedal / gear shifter
- Hex screws instead of Torx screws (like every other BMW)
-Slightly short 1st and 2nd gear

Likes:
- Switches
- Seat
- Paint finish
-Body lines
-Stability in cross winds

Overall:
Such a fun little bike to ride.
Really had a hard time picking out the bad parts about it. Most of the dislikes I have stated are just cost saving exercises from BMW. Nothing a bit of modification won’t fix.
My biggest praise for the bike is how light it is and yet it is so stable in cross wind situations. Even without a windscreen, the way it is setup is enough to provide a comfortable and rewarding ride in the twisty or freeway stretches.

**Notes/Comments**

Engine:
-The engine is vibey, especially between 6-7k RPM, but it gets better the more I ride it. I have added a side tank grip pad and it has surprisingly helped with the vibes you get on the legs. Would recommend to anyone who is looking at reducing the vibes. Handle bar vibes are barely noticeable
-The engine doesn’t like to be lugged

Gearbox:
-gotten the false neutral or ‘-‘ a few times. Only happened when I didn’t do a full shift. It also happened a few times at a standstill, just had to release the clutch a bit for the gears to engage and change. After the 1st oil change the gearbox hasn’t had any issues or sticky gears
-1st and 2nd is a bit short, found myself hitting the rev limiter in 2nd a few times.
-neutral is pretty easy to find, no complaints
-for overtaking on the freeways, 5th gear can get up to 130kmph

Suspension:
- I have set the rear preload to the 2nd click. I think maybe 1 more click will be perfect for my weight.
-no complaints about the front or rear suspension. Its on the hard side but still very plush for my local roads

Brakes:
-took a bit for the brakes to bed in, but they definitely work well
-the rear brake pedal is set a bit low, but for good reason!

Exhaust:
-the stock exhaust was ok, but after getting the akro installed the bike has gotten even more fun to ride. Sound like a little dirt bike now.

Headlight:
-Changed the stock head lights to the OSRAM H4 night racer bulb. The stock one wasn’t bright enough.

Tyres:
-I set my tyre pressure to 225front 245rear. The bike feels more agile with a higher rear tyre pressure.

User inputs:
-good switches, mirrors, shifters.
-I don’t like the foot pegs they put on the bike. Nothing wrong with them but it’s a personal preference. I will be looking at replacing them in the future

Paint:
-the paint used on the handle bars, silver parts, isn’t the same as BMWs other bikes

Seat:
-very comfortable seat, have done a few days trips and no aches.
-love the little notch/back rest they moulded into the seat

Fuel gauge:
-fuel light comes on when I have 2 bars left. But when I go to fill up it only takes 7L. Dunno if this is a con or pro

Thanks for sharing man. Glad to see that you're impressions seem to be fairly positive thus far. Doesn't look like there are many shortcomings on the stock set up. Is the Akra a slip on or full system?

I just wanted to provide an opinion on the small things most reviews online don't comment on

and the akro is a full system,

I do a lot of freeway commuting and at those speeds I found the mirrors almost useless. I ended up buying some round Speed Metal Bar end mirrors. They have a lot less vibration and cleaned up the lines in my opinion.

Great review!

+1 on the cross wind stability, I'm 6'4" and coming across the Mt Henry bridge I've been pushed across lanes on a friends Yamaha MT-03. The 310R is so stable.

Cheers,

Matt

for me, its pretty much anytime I'm on throttle the mirrors are pretty useless. how are your mirrors with lane splitting?

We can't lane split where I live. They maybe stick out a little farther than the bar ends.

Thank you for sharing.

Where did you get the tank pads, they look very good. Does the exhaust add some popping/backfiring when you decelerate?

Thank you for answers in advance.
