I’m still trying to decide between the z400 and the 310r. Because of the shape of the bmw seat and my short inseam, it is harder to feel stable with both on an unlowered bmw. However, I don’t like the handlebar position on the z400 abs. I don’t know if there’s a fix for that.

Get the Z400 and install the lowering link! Replacing the handlebars is easy!

I’m surprised at the number of 310r owners who recommend the z400. If that’s the way you feel, why do you still own the bmw?

That’s a good reason but if somebody had considered them both beforehand, the prices are about the same.

It's because I got the G310R for such a cheap price...like $3600 for a bike with only 20 miles on it. I couldn't pass it up. There's nothing wrong with the G310R. It's just that it has less power than the KTM 390 and the Z400. BMW needs to bring the power up a little bit. Buy the BMW is you're searching for the "name" recognition. Best bang for the buck is the Z400.

I've put 2000 miles in two months. I stopped riding my MT-07 because the 310 is such a fun bike commuting and cayon carving. I prefer the 310 over my MT07 because my MT07 doesn't have ABS. In one year I've put 10,000 miles on the MT07.

The specs for the Z400 look good, I guess is a question of personal choice. I like the BMW styling and I have to admit that I am a bit biased because I worked at BMW for a bit.

I hope BMW would add 8-10HP to this bike. This would make this the perfect street bike.

I agree, waiting for the G400R...not bad for first try....bike is better built in some ways than I thought...just needs some fine tuning to work out reliability kinks on some parts and it will be an awesome street bike. I would pay a little more for it.. The bike feels so light/stable it's great on corner entry...can be ridden extremely fast...lots of potential...I can bust U-turns like nothing.

I am an experienced rider and sold my 600 sportbike for the G310R, so much fun to ride once you understand how to use the bike (more challenging to ride than my sportbike and I enjoy that).
