Winter Riding and Tires

I am considering a new tactic for combating the winter blahs.
Rather than garaging the bike for four months during winter I want to be able to take it out once in a while on a warmer Winter day.
While it does snow occasionally in Rhode Island, the snow usually melts in a day or two. Winters in RI are usually pretty mild, wet and damp yes but hardly snows more that a few inches at a time.... I saw folks riding through much of the winter last year....why not me?

The main concern would be road salt and sand that make the roads slippery and can cause rust.

Just wondering if anyone out there has advice on winter tires for the G310GS.
I would imagine the stock tires or not quite adequate. Feel free to try to talk me out of this crazy idea.

Only the boring can become bored.

It occasionally snows here in the wintertime where I live in southern Oregon too, but I still ride whenever I can, and on the same tires that I use in the summer. That said, I won't ride over any of the nearby passes until spring, and I try not to be stupid. Just take it easy and you should be OK.
