G310 Insurance

Just wanted to create a thread about insurance, how much everyone is paying with which company and what's covered. Would be a good resource for those who need to get insured, maybe for the first time.

It would be great for you to include location and any other supporting info that could help :)

I've read that sport bike insurance for new riders on average costs around $1,000 and that's with a good driving record. Is that a good base number to work from?

R1200GS 2016 - 125 HP, 1200 CC
$250 a year
Bodily Injury - $1M
Property Damage - $100k
Uninsured Motorists - $1M
Comprehensive $500 deductible
Collision $500 deductible
Rental Reimbursement $50/day
Towing

Looked at a Yamaha FZ-09, Insurance was $4500 a year, same company. Don't buy "popular bikes". They get stolen, wrecked and you don't want to be lumped with those losers. (aka young kids, living in an apartment with their head up their *ss)

Wow, $250 a year is dirt cheap compared to what I was expecting. I doubt g310gs owners will be lumped with the more common CBR riders with a higher tendency to wreck their bikes. I'd be happy with $500 a year considering my age and how this is my first bike.

A$280 per year QBE insurance through the BMW Dealer (location: Australia)

Coverage up to A$30M
Bike is insured for up to $7,400
+A$4000 coverage for riding gear (the insurance is $30 more expensive than competitor but covers riding gear, this is the reason I got this insurance)
A$500 excess
I think the insurance is this low because the G310R has ABS and only 313cc

First time I'm seeing coverage for riding gear, but it does make sense if anything ever happens especially with how expensive helmets can get. Does it cover accidental helmet drops too?

porth 06-27-2017 08:48 PM

No, doesn't include accidental helmet drops, the riding gear is only covered in an accident involving the bike.

LiquidCool 06-29-2017 11:52 AM

Hmm, I was probably expecting too much from the insurance company and in hindsight it does make sense not to cover accidental drops.

A tip for insurance rates, don'y cancel your motorcycle insurance in the winter months. They look at continuous coverage and you can change the policy to just cover fire and theft in the winter instead of outright cancelling it, but this is dependent on your insurer.
