Just curious about the other owners experiences regarding 1st scheduled service...

The manual prescribe a visit to the service dept. of your dealer once odometer reach 500 to 1200KM mark (300-750 Miles) for Running-In check.
- Has anyone went for this service yet ?
- Do you know what kind of work has been performed on your bike ?
- How much did they charge you ?

First oil change, again per the manual, is said to be required at 10,000km (6000 miles). Maybe it is understood the Running-In check includes oil+filter change ?
Personally I plan on changing the oil+filter as soon as I'm done with the break-in.

For the first running in service, as far as I'm aware, they change the oil and oil filter, and:

check the diagnosis system, coolant level, clutch play, throttle cable, front and rear brake pads for irregular wear, brake discs for wear, the brake lines, brake hoses, brake connections, tyre pressures and tread wear, chain sag, brake fluid levels, steering-head bearing, lights and signalling equipment, the battery charge state.

They also lubricate the side stand, test the engine and clear the service reminder and set the next reminder.
Depending on how busy they are the service should take around an hour (i.e. when they don't have a backlog and don't need to do any extra work on your bike).

Luckily my dealer offers the first service including parts and consumables free of charge. (you could mention this to your dealer to see if they can offer the same deal, maybe omit the fact that my dealer is located in Australia).

Additionally, I don't know what the warrantee period is in Canada, here in Australia it is two years. This warrantee could be void if you start doing your own servicing? Maybe check the implications of DIY-ing it.

The warranty period in the UK is two years. You don't have to have it serviced at the BMW dealers but you must use genuine BMW filters etc to keep the BMW warranty (EU rules) and that rule applies to all makes as long as you use OE parts.

Don't they also go through every nut and bolt to make sure they're all to torque spec and that nothing has backed off yet or do they not do that??

Not sure, I guess that they might check every nut and bolt as part of the overall safety check.

Yeah.. but I mean, we could definitely do that ourselves if we have a list of all of the torque specs, could also do our own oil changes too actually.

But on a new bike and my lack of skill... I may just go to the dealer the first time around.

Rang Rainbow BMW, Rotherham, UK were I got my 310 about run in service, no more than 1000 miles and £85 not sure about your conversion ! seem ok for 6000/or year before next service.

They would do the work as they wouldn't want to be prosecuted for a breach of EU law - plus it's still good business.

Some people I know like to do oil changes sooner than the scheduled service so they can check for metal shavings or to put in what they believe is better than what the bike maker put in.

I assumed modern engines don't have stuff floating around to get into the oil. Why put metal shavings into the oil when ti comes off the factory production line?

Then my bike is in for the first service (1000km)
I borrowed a similar bike to get home. It seems slower than mine, and it was difficult to find neutral.
Mine has gone 700km, the one I borrowed 2000km

Pretty cool that they lent you a bike to ride home on, though I didn't think the first maintenance session would take them that long to justify sending you home or keeping the G310R overnight.
