After changing the oil I started the bike to check for leaks and distribute the new oil, and discovered I had forgotten to raise the kickstand. Never behaved that way before.

Also, if running with the kickstand raised, the engine does not stop when I lower the kickstand.

I figure the safety switch failed or a wire came loose. However, I like it this way, because now I can warm the bike up when I need to without raising the kickstand.

Any thoughts on whether I really need to fix this?

Thanks, everyone. I've always parked the bike in gear, and never noticed it could start in neutral. I'm sure it's always been that way.
