Bought mine with 2000 km (1200 miles). Have never heard it run. I was surprised to learn the warranty goes with the machine and happily. Got a couple more years. I'm impressed the way BMW supports its products. Even this little brat sister.
For the winter, I dug into the battery area and was surprised at the tolerances of everything. I could hardly remove the battery, it fit so securely. It has little chunks of brass that the battery bolts go through. I never saw that before. Details!
It has a plug for OBD2. Radial tires? This is the first bike I've had with radial tires, so this may be out of this world. I just got a new car (dammit), so it may be a struggle to get out of the driveway; but once the snow's gone, I think the bike's gonna honk.
The vibration, I'm seeing it as part of the machine, 'cause you're not the only one commenting on it. I didn't really latch on to the idea that maybe I should really monitor the bolts and fittings. Now that you've mentioned a few, I'm going to try to remember to do my visuals and touch 'n' torque. And who would think of the light bolts slipping? Mine had a couple of items: the fairing bolts weren't 'set' right (not completed). To fix that, I had to wrench about in the headlight housing area. That's how I noticed the loose turn signal bolt. I tried to fix it from the outside, but the screw just turned. On the inside, I found a tin retainer/nut was just allowing the screw to turn with it. I set that right, and was ready to ride. Your comments have made me think that maybe the things vibrated loose. I have no idea how this R was treated.
She's come home, now, and I'll keep an eye on her. A better eye, thanks to your post. Like you, I think she's a keeper. I don't want another honkin' Wing, 900, 450. Light and lacey is going to be the dance. Now, ... where's that map of how to get to that ice cream place?
