Hello!
Sorry for the encyclopedia like length that will follow, it is more of a review actually, rest assured.
So, after being silent for a while, and with good reason for it,
, I got the GR310r Pearl color. There is no surcharge for the Pearle color at least Here in Malaysia.
I have been riding the G310R for over 1000 kilometers now in three weeks. Mostly for comuting. First impression is I do Love it, it is fun and easy to ride Yes, easy to clean maybe but read on more to find out where do I stand, keeping in mind that not everything is perfect.
The tires are well chosen, will I change them? Most likely not
The A.B.S is for me the first time having one on a bike. Dose it Help, well I must say being the monsoon her in Malaysia the A.B.S prove itself very useful on more than one occasion. Loving it, but once again I do not have any other prolonged experience with it. The front break is whining a little sometimes. Informed the mechanic they will look at it during servicing.
The fenders although they look gorgeous are not well thought after. The front one is having quiet a flex to it, it scared me the first time I clean the bike! It also do not protect well, by that I mean that You can notice the ocasional debris flying off to the sides, it never happens to me like that before. It get dirtier more noticeably than on any other BMW bikes, as I spoken and rede with a few.
The back one dose nothing. When there is water on the road the most of the back sit is cover in mud like powder, it is also noticeable on my back pack, I can say it is also protecting me. That's one thing I do not like much about the GR310r.
The Fork still look stunning, it dose a desent job too even if it can't be adjusted, but with what I paid for, it is very good.
The Light and Signals are OK works well enough. Will I change them? Maybe not, as for now there is no major needs for it.
The Levers, are not ajustable, well they are still pretty OK to me, I do not in tin on doing racing anyways, plus I Baugh a budget bike for a reason, saving cost while having fun, enough said. I may add that, it took a little while for me to stop stalling the bike
.
The mirrors, desent, fonctionnal. The only thing i could add is the fact that sometimes they are a litle blurred, not to the point of not seeing what's beyond Us mind You. Being a mono one could argue that's it is normal. Well I had two before that and ride a few other to know better.
The Ignition, no problems for me there, no mis start issue so far. I may add the the engine temperatures never went below 26°C or 78.8°F so far, this may be the reason? I do like the fact that I can lock the string both side, and I use it often.
The dashboard, it is complete enough, although I do not mind if I had one who looks like either of the GS'S.
The fuel Cap can not be closed easel at first, You really need to get used to it. I do find the fact that You could not remove the key if the cap is not close a nice feature. Some may find that refilling without using the key is annoying, not me. I have found that by being sited on the bike itself if I am turning open the key from the cap (while still in an up rite position) then pushing firmly down on the top part of the cap then it dose not give me so mush troubles.
The tank, what You see and feel is plastic if You did not know, good finsh mind You. It will be nice having a little more instead of the 11 liters, but I can still manage to do about 310 KM or about 192.5 Miles with 23.00 RM, 7.90 USD (full tank). May I remind You that's this is during break in, will let You know in a while how will that change.
The saddle, I am 1.85M about 6.3 Ft, I have to say one of the most conformable I had to be on for a while. When in sitting position You will find Yourself tucked in may I say, as the tank design is taking care of Gidding You into position, helped by the leveled rear passage sit. The passage will be at ease and confi if less than 1.75M about 5.7 Ft. All that's said, it however took me some getting used in finding the rear break pedal, it is not an issue at all, now. Just so You know that the break pale is offsett slightly lower (not on the same level) from the foot rest. It is now a little detail that I do appreciate as I do understand it is mentioned to avoid accidentally activate the break.
The
Shifting gears, Now that's the one many have complained about, hence i will not add to it, only to say it was horrible the first 100 Km about 62 Miles, then it improved altho I got sometimes problems in finding the nutral, this is solved By tapping gently down while on the second gear or when the bike is off.
To discribe some otherthings i noticed:
The bike was loosing coolant fluid when stoped for more than an hour. This lasted, for me at least, until the coolant reached half the tank, about a week in after I got the G310R. Since then no more problem of this nature. I did however noticed the color as changed from greenish to black. Informed the mechanic they will look at it during servicing.
The Center stand, apparently will not be available for My model according to the Salesman. The G310R I got was a special batch, they could a locate only 25 Units for the whole Malaysia first, or 5 per Shop.
There is some eat coming from the engine, noticeable for me on THE KNEES, also some times on the calfs, tibia, mos prominently on the right side. I also noticed My riding Temps are on a normal day hovering from 80°C or 176°F to 98°C or 208.4°F. I got the fan started once stuck ed at a tricky light, temp was 105°C or 221°F it took 2 minutes to stop at a temp of 95°C or 203°F.
Thank If You managed to stay and read untill now! Please give Yourself a nice tap on the back.
Like ALL of You, I really do like and enjoy riding this bike.
