Just bought a new G310R...to be picked up next week. Actually going to be both a second bike for me and (hopefully) my son's first bike. Love my RT, but sometimes will be nice to have a smaller, handier bike to take on short rides...can't wait to get on & ride!

Always great having someone with bigger bikes come onto a forum based around smaller CC's. Being someone who hasn't gone down that route, I can see myself eventually gravitating between the two.
I live in the city center, work in the city, have friends all over the city, suburbs and country. So as you can see that mixed range of bikes suit me just as well.

Congratulations, you will both love it.

I also have an RT, absolutely an amazing machine, however the 310 will open up to you a new dimension of your favourite twisties. :grin2:

Hello Eccles - jealous that you still have the RT as well as the R1200R. I do love the RT, but that R12R was a great bike (and the R1200R forum was and is great). Still lurk over there even though I no longer have an R. Hoping that this forum will be as enjoyable as that one...

I'll be trading a s1000r (unbelievably amazing motorbike) to get the 310 and add it to the gsw (my favorite bike of all time). I've already crossed lines by putting a duke390 into the garage.

Any of you considering putting a smaller displacement into your stable, I can offer my experience that it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I don't travel in the left lane anymore however; these bikes are fun, easy to ride (understatement), inexpensive, and cheap to run. They easily keep up with city traffic and can get you out of most dangerous car "pack" situations, as needed. I cannot wait for the 310!

I'm trading down because I'm fortunate enough to be able to have more than one bike in the garage. I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking I'm "downgrading" for any reason other than enjoyment and a possible opportunity to teach the lady friend how to ride.

My interest in lower CC machines peaked due to a thoughtful challenge to see if I was ignorantly living western culture which suggests we "need" big power. Truth be told, I'm finding there is some validity in that notion and I'm not experiencing that with so many options out there that a small, single cylinder would suffice on these roads as an only option. Please note, though, that belief is all relative to your needs as a rider. Personally, I've become fascinated with single cylinder motorbikes and plan to have one for a long time. Having gained a little experience on two wheels, I know what big power feels like and the type of riding experience it can provide. At this time, I'm just more interested in how these smaller machines respond. Part of my fascination with motorcycling in general, has been the developmental aspects of what type of rider I can identify. My thoughts on what lights a fire in my soul today will probably not be the same tomorrow; certainly not what it was when I first started riding. Part of the fun for me is learning more about myself through the tutelage of motorcycles and motorcycle riding.

As extrinsic forces allow, I will always have a "big" GS in my garage. To me, it is the greatest machine ever. However, I've been really enjoying this transition and do so only to satisfy the needs of my conscious EGO.
