I'm trading down because I'm fortunate enough to be able to have more than one bike in the garage. I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking I'm "downgrading" for any reason other than enjoyment and a possible opportunity to teach the lady friend how to ride.
My interest in lower CC machines peaked due to a thoughtful challenge to see if I was ignorantly living western culture which suggests we "need" big power. Truth be told, I'm finding there is some validity in that notion and I'm not experiencing that with so many options out there that a small, single cylinder would suffice on these roads as an only option. Please note, though, that belief is all relative to your needs as a rider. Personally, I've become fascinated with single cylinder motorbikes and plan to have one for a long time. Having gained a little experience on two wheels, I know what big power feels like and the type of riding experience it can provide. At this time, I'm just more interested in how these smaller machines respond. Part of my fascination with motorcycling in general, has been the developmental aspects of what type of rider I can identify. My thoughts on what lights a fire in my soul today will probably not be the same tomorrow; certainly not what it was when I first started riding. Part of the fun for me is learning more about myself through the tutelage of motorcycles and motorcycle riding.
As extrinsic forces allow, I will always have a "big" GS in my garage. To me, it is the greatest machine ever. However, I've been really enjoying this transition and do so only to satisfy the needs of my conscious EGO.
