Hi there,

I'm about to get one of these two bikes I think. I am not a new rider. I have sat on both bikes and they both 'fit'.

Does anyone have any ownership experience with both these bikes?

I have only seen one Youtube comparison review video, anyone seen any road test comparisons, online magazines or youtube?

Quality of these bikes? The BMW seemed ok but the Ducati felt a bit more substantial.

Yes I know the Ducati costs more.

I guess I need a test ride huh?

But any comments wrt comparing the two would be much appreciated.

I can only express one opinion. Harley Davidson is looking into BUYING Ducati and are very serious about it. If they do, be afraid be very afraid. Ducati will never be the same and and customer service and support will both suffer. I have owned Harley's for many years and can tell you first hand Harley is all about Image while quality and service takes a back seat. I have friends who have had bikes in the shop for weeks at a time waiting for this or that. This is in America where they are produced and the supply chain has been in place for almost a hundred years. I have numerous friends who work for Harley and ride them every day but they spend far too much time in the shop or in the garage at home being worked on. Ducati makes some awesome bikes but Italian bikes require a lot of maintenence and if you think parts and service of a BMW are high look into the shop rates for Ducati.

Sorry for the rant, my next door neighbor has a Ducati, BMW and a Moto Gussi. He spends the most time riding the Gussi on the street, the BMW adventure riding and the Ducati racing, He spends at least 10 hours a week on the Ducati weather he rides it on the weekend or not. The BMW sees 20 times the amount of usage as he goes off for 2 to 3 weeks at a time on it. He says he puts in about 8 hrs of maintenance on the BMW before each outing, the MotoGussi he basically works on once every 3-6 months.

Actually you make some very good points about service costs/maintainance which I suspect many of us tend to forget about when thinking about bikes,,,,,

Hmmm, I've thought about the Ducati Scrambler as well but what drove me away was the laundry list of problems owners were posting on those forums and I'd rather not deal with that.

You mention the price is different... indeed... if it was only a small difference I would have considered that bike maybe, but at a 77% more expensive price tag (canadian market that is), this bike quickly fell off my wish list! I can't find 4000$ of "better parts" on it that could justify this...

hopefully there are some canadians here that jumped the boarder to saves some money since that can amount to a good amount of accessories, seen them do this with cars and it works out good sometimes.

For us Canadians the price difference would have to be very substantial. The last time the CDN$ was at par with the USD was 2013. I just visited the US and paid close to $1.30 CDN for one USD and if we were ordering online the shipping from the US to Canada is equally outrageous, especially using UPS. USPS is much more reasonable but for some reason many vendors won't use them.

valid point and that might work out to be the case if the US economy goes down the hole as some people are suggesting might be the case but of course there are people suggesting the opposite, if it does then that could mean good things for canadians.

Scrambler would seem to be approx US$2,500 more expensive for most markets.

I wouldn't even consider the 62. I go for the Icon. The 62 is no bargain imo. The 310r is a great bike for the money. When Yamaha brings the MT03, the naked R3, that would be worth a look. Why not buy a ktm 390 Duke if you want more power? It's closer to the 310r price wise

Do you not have the MT-03 or R3? I had a 2016 MT-03 from brand new, and only took 5 minutes to decide I had to have the 310R after taking one for a test ride last month (shortly after their launch here in NZ).

Well then I was lucky we don't have the mt03
I owned a R3 which was a good bike. Definitely faster than my g310r but not as comfy, less warranty, and no abs
Still thinking about the new 390 Duke
