Clutch Problem?

My 2022 G310GS currently has almost ~40,000 miles. While riding the Great Ohio Adventure Trail last week, I noticed that the first couple of times I released my clutch to start out in the morning, the clutch was very grabby, so much so that if I don't gradually feather its engagement, the engine stalls. After the first few times, presumably after everything warms up, the clutch functions with perfect smoothness for the rest of the day. I plan to discuss this with my dealer, but thought I'd post a query here too. Thx.

With only ~3k miles on mine, I have not seen that. Since the problem only happens at cold start, you might consider warming all the way up from cold start via idling (without shifting) and seeing whether the problem persists. I have no experience here, but it seems like the culprit must be something that varies with temperature (e.g., the oil), and that test might narrow down the problem for your mechanic.

Good suggestion. Last week, I would start the bike and immediately pull away from the hotel to minimize early morning noise for those still sleeping. Today I'm starting my ride from home, so I'll let the bike fully warm up before proceeding and see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I did this today; it helped, but it was still a bit grabby.

Given the cold start issues maybe it is worth while to do an oil change. Certainly once the engine warms so will the oil and that could be an issue. You can also check oil for any debris.
Good point and it just became due for one now. I'll do this and a test ride and report back. Thx.

Spoke with the service manager at my dealer just now. He said that the clutch basket sometimes gets notches that grab, but his bottom line was that they'll have to open and inspect the clutch to find out. When my XR is ready for pickup in a week or so; I'll leave my GS for servicing and clutch inspection.
