As a recreational pilot, I am always aware of my aircraft, knowing when something doesn't feel right.
Unusual vibration or shuddering.Today, I experienced that with my bike.
I have Shad hard side cases. Which swing open from the top.
I was on the freeway earlier today and suddenly felt the bike 'drag', like a small parachute had
been opened behind me. I suspected a tire issue and pulled over. Turns out I had not locked one of the cases
and the lid had opened. Nothing in there, but lid being opened at highway speed presented enough drag to make
the bike respond differently. People talk about the alarms and lights that pilots look for during an issue, but with smaller aircraft
pilots tend to ignore those initially and go by 'feel'. After flying the same aircraft for sometime you get to know
what a clean aircraft should feel like.So FEEL YOUR BIKE, and know how it should feel/handle during normal
and safe operations. Don't ignore any abnormalities while in motion.

Part of my "pre-flight" checklist is to physically touch the two claps on my Pelican top case before I get on the bike, just make sure they're latched. I've been doing it for so long now, I don't even have to think about it. Every now and then I find them unlatched, and my routine pays off.

You're lucky the wind didn't blow that lid clear off!

I have the same with my cars and other mechanical things, I usually notice straight away when 'something' is amiss.

I was going a fair clip, and the wind must have opened it when I made a lane change.
The lid opens parallel to the bike, so as I long as I wasn't going around a corner fast, I was good..
