GPS Mount

I'm looking at the g310r handlebars and there doesn't seem to be much space on there for a GPS mount and the GPS itself. what do you guys think?

Just to the left of the instrument cluster seems great to me, and that's the only area I can see it work.

I've seen some setups where they mount it right above the instrument cluster, typically bikes also have windscreens.
You'll have to mount it as close to the rear view mirror as possible to avoid blocking your view of the bike's own display screen. There's space for one, just not a lot of it.
The handlebars just doesn't look like it has a flat area to mount one, it's mostly curved.
You could always change out the handlebars and there's a lot of choices out there. Here's a general handlebar guide for everyone. some of them are flatter and less curvy for mounting things like a GPS.

This is one way to go about it without having to worry about space although some will worry about how weird it might look, but when you have a real need for certain features, you have to let go of cosmetics to some extent:

Combining it with a vent visor like the above makes it even better. I would even consider tinting the visor to improve cosmetics, in that you get additional functionality.

Most people, including me, don't think about mounting it on top of the gauge since it's not a common method but now that you've brought it up people will have another method for GPS mounting. Just need to find that mount.

I think I'll wait for the adventure model instead of the base g310r. That one will most likely come with a wind screen and maybe a straighter handlebar for mounting things to if it takes after the 1200 GS in that aspect.
Touratech already has a GPS mount for the BMW R1200GS Adventure and they may come out with what you're looking for if you're going for the mini GS. they're pretty well known and it connects to the windscreen support bar.
I'm hoping to get one of those for the mini GS. They're the perfect mounting bars since it doesn't block off your view of the gauge cluster.

I think the best way is to use givi S901A with S952B or S955B. I ll try it, when my bike will come.
The S952B seems to be the more universal choice when it comes to mounting since it's just a clamp onto whichever part of the handlebar that's available.
Try using a cell phone mount, then use the gps on the phone. There are a lot of really good high quality mounts that have a very slim mount that would fit on the left side of the handle bar base !!
You could use a Tomtom Vio like this gentleman here:

That's actually perfect for the G310R, small and round enough to fit the bike's aesthetics. Too bad there isn't one for google map...

Can't be that hard to sync information between one of these and our phones/smart watches. As time goes on odds are there will be more syncing and integration to smart devices. Lots of reasons for existing companies and start-ups to do it, the value it provides us as riders is powerful
I already have a GPS, just too cheap to buy another one when you compare the price of a mount to that. Also depends on how you ride, for random rides with no destination, GPS will only be used to get back home. Most of the time I wouldn't even need it. Plugging it into the G310R is a more important matter IMO.
Here's my GPS setup (iPhone mount), only use it when needed and keep the case under the seat.
