Have to pass inspection by your Finance Minister? I have that issue myself. Could be worse, eh?

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission ;)
Actually, it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, but it's always easier to live with not getting permission than it is to live with not getting forgiven. Especially when the Household 6 is involved.

P.S. In the military, Unit Name 6 designates the commander of that unit, so Household 6 is slang for the non-military spouse and now you've had your military tidbit of the day.

Man alive I’m with Colonel Jerry on that one! I got Married way late in life and years of single hermit. First week of marriag, I went and dropped money on a quad , was a steal and could resell (and did) but did not discuss such a large purchase with her (she makes more money).
Never scene her so mad as when I drug it home and said “look what I got”. Only saved as she knew I was ignorant (and she’s cool) and not used to sharing anything with anyone.
Get a blessing before questionable actions life is better when your partner happy.

My experience with a rear rack weight limit that affected me the most is the cantilevering. You don't notice it much with heavier bikes or with longer wheelbases. Two bikes ago, I had a Vespa GTS300, comparable to the G310: 350lbs, 278cc. I had tried twice to design a rear rack wheelchair mount. I had a mount that was sturdy, but...on the test run, I discovered that it unweighted the front wheel. That's where most of the braking power is!
Long-term, I would make it part of my routine to regularly inspect the frame and bolts, but short-term is to make sure it doesn't mess with handling.

I plan on some long trips as well! My strategy is to try to keep the weight centered and low. Heavier things are going into the dry bag across the seat and the side cases. I plan on putting some smaller bags on the tank guards to offset the rearward weight. My rear rack luggage is usually dedicated to rain gear, day bag, and extra layers. On longer trips, I leave space in a topcase for food and drinks. It's no fun standing in a grocery store parking lot, sun going down, trying to figure out where to stash the things you got for dinner and/or breakfast.

It’s never easy. The best thing about the 310 is though relativy light, it’s not blown around like some. But start loading odd shapes and one has to be aware. I used to carry my bicycle on my F700GS and my 1200RT. Both heavy beasts that it made no real difference in handling but I sure would have been in it in even a minor get off!

Another story is when I had a VW rabbit pick up. Amazing unit with 50+ mpg on free waste oil. But front wheel drive. Loaded down the front end would get so light very hard to direct which direction the unit would go!!
