I am looking for this bike as my first one. Convince me it is a good choice. :grin2:

Good choice for a first bike, I’ve enjoyed riding mine for the last 7 months but have recently upgraded to an F800R. My last ride to the dealer on the 310R was great and had me thinking on the way there if I really wanted to part with it as it’s so light and fun to ride, but unfortunately I want to do longer trips which means more motorway riding, hence the upgrade.

Cheaper and less "Buzzy" than the CB300
Cheaper and less "Couteau entre les dents" than the KTM Duke 390
Almost the same price as the Ninja 300 and cheaper than the Ninja 400,, Kawi has no roadster in this class.
And the 3 years warranty with roadside assistance is the best(especially considering the more limited dealer network for BMW in Canada)

The G310 is stable and agile at the same time (that long swingers....) very confidence inspiring.
Not the best Autoroute cruiser (it's a bit buzzy at 120 kmh) it's perfect on Quebec's 2 laners. It should be a lot of fun in Charlevoix and the twistyer roads.

Also the suspension is perfect for Quebec's VERY imperfect roads.

BUT....If you are looking for a fire breathing, Wheelly popping, drag winning mini monster......ehhh not so much.
It is the "Choix raisonable" rather than the "Choix du Coeur" in today's under 400cc market.
At least, that is what I think!

Thank you everybody four your reply! I want tonthe dealer and sat on it today! What a nice and confortable bike! Hopefully it'll be mine soon! ( I'm starting my msf course next week)

how is the f800R?

I'm really enjoying my G310r . But, for longer trips I too would like
to check out the F800R. So I just wondered how are you getting along with it?

Lighter bikes are just more fun be it city commuting, riding through twisty hills, or on the occasional fire road. Having toured on bikes 300-1100cc (6-16-hours a day) there are ways to make a small bike more comfortable, and it's certainly more fuel efficient, and physically manageable when you're tired. The G310 is visually stunning and mechanically sound machine worthy of your first purchase or your last (me).

Sorry for the late response. The F800R is very good and very underrated as a bike. I’m guessing it’s not as popular as similar KTMs, Yamaha’s etc, due to the higher cost, but I really like it. I’ve done just over 2000 miles in the last month and a half and find it better each day. At first it felt a lot heavier and cumbersome to move around by hand, but I’ve soon got used io the extra 50 or so kgs. Fuel economy isn’t as good as the 310, but still getting mid 60s on a mix of roads. Comfort is slightly better as you can move around the seat a little more than the 310. Power, 90hp compared to 34, is very noticeable and has a good amount of Torque.

On the minus side, I’ve noticed more vibration through the bars, but this has been sorted with grip puppies. Wind noise to the helmet was greater, it’s got the slightly higher screen than Standard, but again this has been sorted with a screen extender. Gear box is a little clunky as well, but you soon get used to it.

I liked the 310 a lot, but I like this more. Cruising at 70 & 80 is no longer a stressed ride and overtakes are a breeze with plenty of power to roll on the throttle for a brisk pass.

Finally one of the biggest pluses, but often forgotten, is that it has a centre stand!!

I recommend you try one out and see what you think.
