Has anyone managed to order a low seat?
Im told you have the buy the bike with the stock seat, then buy a low seat, fit and throw away the stock seat.
Also centre stands are not avaiLable to order in the uK

why do BMW market a bike to new riders and then make it expensive for them to get on the road, Nice intro into the BMW family.

That's what my dealer told me about centre stands. However, they are listed on the accessories of the G310R page on the BMW Motorrad UK website. It seems that there are no official accessories available at present in the UK anyway. Still can't find a definitive answer if centre stands will be available or not once BMW get their supply act together.

I contacted BMW Motorrad UK direct and they said that a centre stand is unavailable at present and did not know when they will be available to order. Not very good service from a manufacturer that prides itself on customer service especially as, I am led to believe from my dealer, that NO G310R accessories are available at present even though they are listed.

Mmmh, I ordered some accessories on my G310R. When it's going to be delivered, I will let you know if it was a lie or not :grin2:

I was told that the different seats where an option and didn't cost any extra if you ordered the seat with your bike (i.e. you only get 1 seat). The problem was that the dealer didn't have any high or low seats for the demonstrator, so I just went with the normal seat and am happy with it. I agree that each dealer should have at least one of each so that potential buyers can try them out and order them at the start (at no additional cost) and not have to buy them as a separate item at a later stage.

I was told quite the opposite, if the order the low seat it is additional cost, so you now have two seats, and one bike. Go figure.

That's how BMW makes a little extra cash, by forcing you to buy another seat. It should come standard with the lower seat which is still higher than the Kawasaki Versys 300-X. Does not do much for instilling confidence in new or shorter riders. Bad marketing choice.

I guess they figure that most of their buyers are 5' 8" or more in height. They leave it to someone like Rally Raid and others to make rear shocks that can be lowered (along with lowering front forks) which is only a little more expensive than paying the $400+ cost for the lower seat.

The normal set while too high is comfortable on my butt. About 5'5.5" and 185 Lbs.

i am 5'9" when i bought my G310GS from a (non BMW ) dealer i found the seat a little too high. The dealer took off some pretension, it made a small difference but not good enough for me.
Once home with bike i i found the previous owner had the seat recovered , and it was marginally higher than normal..
So next stop was EBAY , i bought a secondhand seat there it was normal height but still not comfortable enough ,after spending £60 for the seat i was not going to make a bigger expense buying a low BMW seat on top of that may not be right for me ...
So i got in touch with the company that reupholstered the original seat and sent them the EBAY seat ,i had that reduced by 25mm a extra 10mm over the BMW low seat ... it may sound a lot but it is comfortable as there are gel packs in the seat ..I will attach photos of my original seat and the EBaY one recovered on my bike (it has the red piping ).
you will see also the seats look way better than the BMW seats

Looks pretty good. I like the gel pack idea. Also getting a eBay seat makes good sense. Stock seats are relatively cheap. I’m toying with changing mine to more of a rally style. I really don’t like the total lack of movement of the stock seat.
I figure I’ll use a local reupholstery guy too.
As far as seat height I’m 5’6" with a 30" inseam. I’m on my toes, but coming from a 1200gs, the weight difference makes it very easy to slide a little off the seat and balance with minimal effort.
Anyways again, cool looking seat!
