BMW Motorrad has once again won over MOTORRAD Magazine readers in by winning nine awards at the publication’s 19th “Motorcycle of the Year” readers’ votes.

This year, BMW Motorrad took home first place in the sport bikes, touring/sport touring bikes, crossovers, and modern classics categories. The brand also managed to place second three time and come in third place twice.

“Once again I am very pleased with the outstanding result our motorcycles achieved and would like to thank the MOTORRAD readers warmly for their vote. Nine podium places are a strong validation for the width of our BMW Motorrad range,” says Stephan Schaler, Director BMW Motorrad.

Standing on the Sports Bikes podium for the third year in a row is the BMW S 1000 RR with 17.8 percent of the readers’ votes. No surprise as the S 1000 RR has the perfect combination of quiet confidence and outrageous velocity thanks to its Race ABS, Dynamic Traction Control DTC and optional Dynamic Damping Control DDC.

Unfortunately, the R 1200 GS didn’t place first in its class and lost by a hair even though it is BMW’s top adventure bike. Perhaps the G310 R or GS variant will come in first place next year.

As nice as this is for BMW, I just don't care too much about awards like these and there are so many handed out every year. What is boils down to is the kind of motorcycle you're look for and how it feels when you ride it. Also, this is based on readers’ votes and we have no idea if they own the bikes themselves.

Hit the nail on the head with that one.

Every one of these bikes coming out are getting awards for something, you see it all the time in the media. But those same bikes just wouldn't work for someone, and another bike in the segment will. It all comes down to the individual at hand and that's as far as it goes.

That along with how it is for riders like yourself, people who come from a similar riding background, and even people of a similar height and overall dimensions. All these awards do is shed more light on the product and help people know about them, another marketing tool.
