Just installed SW Motech engine guard, skid plate and center stand. Pretty psyched on the parts and the engine guard worked great today but still think I’d like the Rally Raid guard. I don’t like how my engine guard/skid plate bolts to the engine, it still transfers force directly to it.

Went out in the desert and got some great riding in in single track, two track smooth rocky and soft conditions. Experienced gravel, interesting with some basic lessons learned. My thought for the day is you always make it until you don’t! Pretty profound huh?

Took a bit of a spill and broke the end of my clutch lever. Otherwise only minor scratches to guard and mirrors.

Next up are barkbusters and tires, probably Shinko 804/805, thoughts? Also spare levers for the kit. These stock tires were like riding on butter in the soft dirt as expected. Still a ton of fun learning about this adventure riding thing. And planning a partial kokopelli trip (avoiding RGH) and the White Rim in October🤙🏽

Yes indeed, you always make until you don't. I forget that much more than I should. Glad you enjoyed the riding and that the spill was minor. But, you didn't say anything about yourself. Did you survive without any damage?

Sounds like you had fun. Fit the Barkbuster hand guards and you won't need spare levers. I had 3 spills on a recent off-road course, 2 in mud and one drop on hard gravel. Only superficial damage on crash bars and hand guard plastics, the hand guard plastics is 3 separate pieces and can be replaced individually pretty cheaply.

Arion, thanks for asking! It was a low speed drop not really a crash and not a scratch on me. I jumped off as it went down. Barely a scratch on the bike. A little dirt on the knees while picking it up!!

Francoisps nice bike, they look so much better dirty! Are those the Givi guards? If so do you have any idea if the tank guard will work with the SW Motech engine guard? I am ordering barkbusters Monday!!!

@High Desert Rider Thanks, but I don't think the bike will ever be completely free of that mud. The engine and tank crash bars are Hepco Becker. I also want to fit the SWMotech engine guard/bash plate in the future but it is not quite a requirement for my skill level yet:) I haven't looked at it too closely before but looking at it now it appears to be very close where the bash plate comes up quite high on the sides towards the foot pegs.

Edit: Just found info in another thread which indicates that the above parts do work together without requiring modification:

High Desert Rider - Did you have any problem mounting the Motech engine guard to the right side of the bike considering that the radiator hose is a bit in the way ?
I just got those same gaurds and am scratching my head as to the install on the right side ( short of squishing the hose out of the way and knowing the bolt looks like it would be up against the hose causing wear ).
Any tricks?

@IOM, I have the Hepco & Becker brand so it may not be the same but... The guard I received came with different thicknesses of spacers & I had to select the correct one to get some clearance on the radiator hose. Maybe yours is same way? Check your spacers... Have attached a pic but it’s a tough angle to capture - have several mm of clearance.
