Heya everyone!

So my wife got desire for a bike and got her CMSP/MSF course down.
I'm riding from 1990 and my last bike before we moved to US from EU was Suzuki Bandit '98 Naked 600cc (GSF600n).

We were going back and forth between Duke 390 and g310r, but with the shortage of Duke out of the door price was really too much over g310r (lowest we got after a lot of talks $6400 for duke OOD).
So, long story short, we got an awesome OOD for g310r black at local bmw of Walnut Creek, but she was really after blue one (especially because we used to own wrc subaru wrx sti blue with gold rims).
Had to hunt down and talk down for a 2 hours at San Jose BMW, originally they wanted 6600 OOD, which I think is outrageous considering flat 250 freight. Anyway we got good deal, still couple of 100th more than black one local, but not that bad.

Now, the 2 main reasons for me to go with BMW:
1. Cheaper OOD at the end
2. 3y/36000mi warranty, I honestly think it is good move but oversight from BMW, what is 36000 for 1200 engine is not the sme for 313cc engine
3. BMW has 2 active incentives for recent CMSP/MSF graduates, $500 off gear and reimbursement of basic riding course, which worth at least $500 (we paid $268 for CMSP and comparable gear is a bit cheaper than bmw) and at most $768 savings, currently we have pending gear selection, maybe we will go 2x boots, as good boots would cost similar anyway.

With the bike at home couple of observations:
1. First ~50mi had trouble engaging 6th, and in couple occasions 1st from N (but this was easy, release clutch and it would shift next time). Works better at 100mi we have now.
2. Good city bike, but too much gear shifting to be ideal commuter bike... as expected.
3. Dealer said no need to ride in period (and keep rpm lower than 6000), later read in manual there is...
3. Not a lot of aftermarket parts yet, just 1 crash bars ready to ship, no frame sliders, no adjustable levers yet, etc... Comparing to Duke it is huge disadvantage.

Comparing to my old Bandit, it is completely different bike, while Bandit was a sloth in low RPM, it was 600cc/74hp, so no contest, but BMW is so much lighter, at low speed it is like a moped.
Comparing to 2016 Duke it is slower, but better power band, '16 duke felt more powerful, but in narrow power band, yet 2017 duke is definitely more powerful at all RPM, but HUGE BUT - a lot higher seat height on 2017!!! But parts prices and availability currently keeps me wondering if duke is the better bet at the moment...

All in all happy to have g310r as first bike for my wife (and bike for myself) till I get my own in US (most likely fz-07 or Duke 690 or similar). Fun bike to go around town and not busy (no lane splitting) highway. Hope to check twisty roads soon, after initial run in period and hope to transition my wife from first time CMSP/MSF rider to safe road warrior soon.

Thanks everyone! Spent some time in parking lot with cones, so now by wife is building the confidence, would really love to find crash bars or frame sliders to ease her mind.
Looks like no crash bars ready to ship, motomachines just replied that they are about 2 weeks away from re-stocking crash bars that I've ordered... :(

Nice color choice. My out the door was $5132
I bet it is not in CA.

nice to see someone from the bay on here, I got mine from BMW MC's Walnut Creek also! I live down in Santa Cruz tho!
Yeah, would love to buy it from this guys, but they only had black in stock and next two they ordered are white. So had to shop in San Jose.
