only 343 unit affect:
from Transport Canada Recall # 2018331=

On certain motorcycles, the side stand connector and/or frame could break. If this occurs while the motorcycle is in motion, it could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. If the side stand breaks while the motorcycle is stationary, it could fall over, increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. Correction: Dealers will inspect the side stand connector and frame for any damage. If no damage is found, the motorcycle will be equipped with a reinforcing plate and a new side stand connector. If damage is found, a redesigned frame including the reinforced side stand connector will be installed.
i'm lucky mine its not in the list.

It is official and on the Transport Canada website. There's actually 2 recalls.

The other is regarding rear lights and reflectors not meeting requirements. Transport Canada Recall # 2017329 (only 26 units affected):
  • Certain motorcycles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CVMSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The rear lighting and reflectors may not meet the requirements of the standard, which could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following road users, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the rear lighting unit and reflectors with ones that meet the requirements of the standard.
You can also click on a link there that takes you to the BMW website so that you may check your VIN to see if you are affected.

I'd post links but don't have enough posts to do so but if you just go to the Transport Canada website and search for recalls, you'll be able to find the vehicle search page.

Thanks for the link. I just checked, and mine isn't affected either. I'll still keep my eye on the stand welds, though.

Some of the points make me wonder:

  • how many units have actually been sold in Canada, and what portion of that total number are the 343?
  • why are only some units affected? Shouldn't the construction of the bikes be pretty much identical so far in the short run of things?

My 310R was delivered to me mid-june 2017 and it does not come up in the database as well, surprisingly.

I'm also free !

Since the topics appeared I have suspected a metallurgy problem, such as heat treating post welding or something related such as a new, less well trained or less experienced welder.

The oldest machines should be of a better quality or quality control.
With all the german workers hovering over the indian workers, TVM would have placed their best on the early production line. And problems would creep up later in the process.
Also not all machines would be affected since they would be related to certain individuals on the line. Products made by humans, for humans = imperfections, i.e. normality.
Been there, got a T-shirt, Col. Murphy is my leader, etc, etc.

Anyhow, if at all possible, I'm going to try to have that reinforcing plate added to mine, just in case !

If the online VIN decoder tools are to be believed, mine was born in mid-march of 2018. I don't know what it means, in the end, because mine's a pretty recent bike, and is not affected by the recall.
I'm also in MTL, so we might well have bought from the same dealer!

I bought mine at Moto Internationnale....USED, last fall it had 800km on the odd.

The guy who ordered it found it underpowered probably.

Anyway I was happy to find a 'newsed' one since I've had a jinx with new vehicles, so I always buy used.

And the G310R appealed to me because I found my CBR250R underpowered, and felt the Duke390 to high strung.

I was right, I really love my G, with or without the centerstand.

Would you believe I very nearly bought that one?? The white+red+blue one!

I ended up "overwintering" and getting a red G310GS in May. It gave me time to sell off a couple of bikes to put a good downpayment on it.

If that is 343 bikes in Canada (and not worldwide), then it seems odd the few canadian owners that replied here have either "old" or "new" bikes and none are been recalled.

BMW might have declared to Transport Canada 343 bikes are concerned while their own online database is not up to date with the VINs yet?

Just saying, as for the only recall I had on mine (rear light/reflector setup), it was posted on Transport Canada end of June 2017, but I got the official letter from BMW only in October 2017! Some similar delay might be happening for the stand issue? Time will tell...

BTW I've tried calling the provided phone # and after choosing the few options the system instruct you to go online on the very same website. So not learning anything new trough the phone call.

I have a sinking feeling this might be the case too. I'm going to give Moto-Inter a call next week, and in the mean time, continue to keep an eye on my stand. Initially, I used the footpeg to mount while on the sidestand, but within a week, I was stretching out to be able to kick my leg over without having to use the peg.

Fingers crossed it'll hold!

I called BMW Canada (on hold for 25 minutes) and spoke to the recall specialist and ALL G310R and G310GS bikes ARE affected, they just have not had a chance to enter all of our VIN numbers in the search yet. They only have so many days to put the recall notice up, so they do that first, then enter the VINS. We will all be getting calls from our dealers.

Well so much for Transport Canadas "current" updates.
I did find it kind of odd, that only some were affected.
My thinking is they are "all" affected by this design/weld flaw.
Not sure, but don't think anything has changed in design since they first came out.
So I will continue to use my paddock stand as much as possible, so I don't wake up in the morning
to see it laying against my truck.:surprise:

I don't know about that. Jenny (with Piglet) has been reporting pretty rough treatment of the side stand report and her bike is still holding itself up.
I still believe some bikes may be exempt and others be defective. But if I were BMW I'd recall all just to make sure.
In the meantime, don't stand on the on the bike while it's on the side stand and it should be ok.

I did find it strange that every VIN that i checked (had a few from dealers) came back as negative. But thought maybe it was only a certain batch that had the issue or Transport Canada wasn't inputting the VIN's yet despite the fact the database date keeps getting updated. And looks like klouseau has confirmed that.

I just wish i could get a timeline so i could make a decision to wait or move on to another bike.

Just an update, heard back from two dealers and they both stated that I can put a deposit down to reserve a bike but they won't deliver till mid to late August. Not sure if i should wait or not. Aghhh
