It seems that the engine is going to updated by introducing Shift Cam system

The sub-title and the last sentence in the article support my contention that...

will be for meeting emissions requirements rather than providing more power
Sub-title:
"BMW’s new Shift Cam single-cylinder engine is expected to deliver higher fuel efficiency and reduced emissions"

Last Sentence:
"Performance numbers won’t change much with the upcoming Shift Cam single-cylinder engine."

i am not bothered with the 11litre tank at all tbh, it is a 310cc bike so 11 litre goes a long way. also i can always carry fuel bottle if i really need to go further.

what i really want to see is a rallye / enduro version of the bike with slightly increased engine size, preferably 450cc, 21inch front, 18 inch rear, spoke wheels, abs switch button, high position exhaust (or even with external higher snorkle) for better water crossing, easier access to air filter, bench seat without the pillion bump, remove the pillion pegs rack as well for weight saving (in uk, the mot will fail if you have pillion seat but no pillion pegs).

i know many don't like single swing arm, but having a r1200gs i really appreciate it because it is easier to take the wheel off, it also saves space on the right, which means:

1. exhaust can be closer to center so when you drop the bike on the right side, it is less likely to damage the exhaust.
2. also no right swing arm meaning it won't be damaged when dropped, it is very common to damage the swingarm as exhaust goes underneath it for current model.
3. more space on the right for luggage, especially when you have pannier.

I wouldn't mind more power as long as the weight stayed under 400. However, I don't think that's likely. In countries where your motorcycle license level is based on displacement, increasing the 310 to 450 might put the bike out reach for many 310 riders.
