I noticed a tapped hole just above the exhaust, thought it strange it wasn’t blanked off or anything. Any ideas on what it’s for. Cheers.

As the engine is same in several BMW and TVS models, the hole could be used for different things on different bike models-

Thanks, just surprised it isn't blanked off to prevent dirt etc.. at least it sounds as though something hasn't dropped off

Putting a plug in a hole cost money. The G310-series is a cheap motorcycle, for better and for worse.

Often these threaded bosses serve a purpose in the factory, on the assembly line. Typically, lines and robots will lift and carry via connecting to a boss such as this.

Can't say for certain that's the reason for this particular one, but it's a hunch. You'll find a few of these around your 310 engine, and on many engines.

As for leaving them open, BMW sees no concern.

Thanks, you're probably correct.. as Hasselman said above, probably a cost saving exercise not blanking it off.
