Hey guys! Just wanted to introduce myself and maybe get to know some other future owners from California. First time rider, put a deposit on the bike a couple weeks back, the dealers saying it'll be here in around a week( are your dealers in California saying the same?) still have don't have my motorcycle license; still have to do the classes. Currently out of the country, but hopefully I'll get the done before the bike arrives.

Also do you guys know if the training course to get the approval for the license is difficult? Because I'm a completely new rider, I've ridden dirt bikes a couple of times. Once the bike gets going I don't have a problem but the initial first move of the clutch and the throttle is where I use to struggle.

Welcome to the forum. I am from SoCal San Diego area and my dealer has gotten in 3 so far that I know of, all of which have had deposits on them and sold. They have at least 6 more that have deposits on them they will be called as they arrive. I am waiting on the G310GS so I will have to wait a couple months or more.
As for the training courses in my area they expect you to know NOTHING and take the time and effort to teach you from the ground up. They seem to be very patient with people or so the instructor has told me. He teaches the classes over at my local Harley dealership and is very cool. As for the clutch and throttle action it is really the same motions as a manual transmission in a car. If you practice just easing out the clutch until you start to feel it engage just barely you can then add a slight amount of throttle and continue easing out the clutch for a smooth start. Just like a manual transmission in a car you will feel the interaction and in a very short time it will be second nature. The clutch on the G310R is very light and easy. As for how hard the license test is I cant say it has been over 40 Years since I took mine.

Oh okay that's really nice to hear about the classes, hopefully I get through them and the license well.

I'm from NorCal btw the Bay Area, so I hope it's similar to you.

I did the MSF a few years back in the Bay Area (SF City) - its pretty straightforward plus they take it slow and leave no man/woman behind. If you've ridden anything with a clutch before you should be just fine.

I'm also waiting on a 310r - I talked to BMW Motorrad on Bryant St. last week - I was told one should be showing up with my name on it anytime in the next 1-2 weeks. Had the deposit since late May - the suspense is killing me. Almost pulled the trigger on a duke 390 during that time but decided to try out the 310 first.

No way, yeah I think we're pretty much in the same boat on when the bikes arrive, BMW Mottorad in Walnut Creek is pretty much telling me the same thing. I was also very close to getting a Duke :') I was actually going to order one with your dealer but by the time I decided to make a deposit they already had a few people in front of me, but Walnut Creek only had one person.

Love that review especially seeing how much power delivery and handling were covered which to me were always the most important facts and will always remain that. I work and a live in the city so as you can imagine that plays a big importance
