Hi everyone,
my bike won't start.
See video attached: New video by Rebecca Armitage

I bought it 3 months ago and the dealer put a brand new battery.
It's a 2018 model.

HELP ..... ; - (

Not to fear Gillard!

You are just experiencing your 310 initiation protocol: Alternator Failure.

Well, at least that is what I guess it to be. You'll want a proper diagnosis to confirm - I had my used bike from BMW for 7 months, with continuous daily riding AND the use of an Optimate battery charger (plugged in overnight, every night) before my bike failed to start one day.

You should get BMW Roadside Assistance with every BMW purchase in the UK. Not sure of the availability of services across the globe. They can check the charge output when the engine is running (after boosting or using an alternate battery source). Which will confirm or deny that path of diagnosis.

If you want more information, this topic is packed across the site. Just search "Alternator".

All the best with your repair!

Candy :]

P.S. this repair isn't so bad, my courtesy car (as they didn't do courtesy bikes :[ ) I had a brand new 320i xDrive for 4 months just as the snow hit. Heated seats do trump heated grips in my opinion. Handed the keys back as the frost thawed. The 310 hasn't had any issues 12 months later. I assume they've upgraded the part now.

Isn't the fabulous BMW road side assistance valid only as long as the warranty is valid? The bike is a 2018 and could be out of warranty.

Hi, it sounds like you have enough battery power and it is turning over. Maybe fuel is not getting to the engine (I see that you have gas). Did the bike stop on you or did you just get done riding and went to start it the next day? I have a 2019 that just stopped on me while riding through one of our tunnels, thinking I ran out of gas, but looked again and it registered 1/4 tank. It was towed to BMW and a new engine put in due to the cams causing engine failure. If you just rode it and everything was fine and you put it up only to have it not start the next day or later on I don’t think it is the same issue I had. Let us know.

After connected to the charger overnight I got few minutes to crank it up and it started on the second go.
Update: bike starts three days in a row with no issues.
I'll watch and wait on this. As others said, battery was looking okay, but then it started after putting on the charger.
@J4ehill really hope it's not your issue!

The roadside assistance can be extended past the warranty. I've kept mine going as it's the best value road side assistance here, and they use specialised bike recovery vehicles.

Great tip. Mine is finishing in 5-6 weeks...end of 2021.
Bike has 1000km on the clock, so need to extend that warranty, for sure.
