Would you buy again

I only have 3,600 mile on mine and I got stuck on the road 70 miles from home. It’s not charging. Still under warranty. When I get it fixed I worried it might do it again or something else.

A good question ... I've now had mine for 3 years.
Its not a bad bike [I still have it] - but plenty of teething problems & recalls.
And the [email protected] still won't start in the cold [ <10'C]
So overall, if I knew then, what I know now . NO .. I'd go Honda.
The overall BMW experience is no where like what I expected.
This small bike does nothing to enhance the bmw reputation - IMHO.
I have a 2018 with only 4k miles and no any problem at all, to me a good bike, yes some recalls but nothing more, average 87 km/l, fast and maniobrable, I have a F900XR too but I won't leave the little baby

Guys I joined the Forum last 2018 when I bought the G310R but for some reason I do not why, I could not reply and or comment so, today I register again. Yamaha 250 Virago, 2013 R1200R black 90 Anniversary, 2018 G310R and 2020 F900XR
I got it as my first bike, the main selling point for me was the comfortable seat and the 0% finance they where offering.

It made more sense to me to get a new bike with abs and a warranty for learning / commuting on than spend 2k less on an older bike with no warrenty.

Given the cost of the other new lams bikes, I'd probably buy it again in the same situation. I'm now looking at moving to a 700-800cc bike.
Yes, it is a good sense start slow and climb to higher capacities, the curve is a little expensive but you will get more knowledge what you really want and appreciate from a bike, good sense man, it is good for you
Bought mine a couple of weeks ago. Before riding it I noticed that it was leaking fluid from the water pump pipe! Bike is ( just ) still under the 3 year warranty
and is still at the dealers. Not their fault, the dealers don't manufacture them but it does put a dampener on the bike for me........oh and she has had the sidestand/caliper recalls already done. Just
2,500 miles on the clock....hopefully doesn't indicate an expensive toy alert for future miles !!
So here we are...1 month after buying the bike and I still haven't got it back repaired...haven't even sat on it yet ! It will be for sale.
I Definitely will not buy any BMW again let alone a 310. Too many faults, complete lack of product support from the manufacturer and a dealer that only did something once I obtained a diagnosis from another BMW dealer and threatened them with legal action. This is 2020 not Arthur Daley in the 1970's!

If you don't know who Arthur Daley is or are outside of the UK please Google it.
I found the whole buying process easy & no pressure from sales guy, took it for a 30min run & decided to buy.
They even give you a demo bike when its in for work(y)
600 & 6000mile services were only £100.....
Im happy with bike,no problems so far....
aquila23 I would agree with your comments I have had 6 BMWS over the years and yes they have all had the odd recall or problem I have had to go back to the dealer but I will always say that the treatment you get is always better than I have had from other makes at bike dealers. But there are good and bad BMW dealers the difference is BMW GB soon remove the dealer if complaints start being reported. The best thing BMW started doing is centralising all new bikes PDIs before dispatching to the dealers this ensures and updates and PDI work is done, leaving the dealers only to install any accessories purchased.
In the UK ALL new cars and motorcycles must have a Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) before it can be registered for road use and must meet a number of construction, safety and emission regulations also any manufacturer recalls or updates.

I have had Suzuki & Honda bikes in the past in for a service, only BMW have given me a demo bike to play with while mine is getting service work done.

To me that is looking after your riders & a great step to your next bike:p

Me too, always look forward to getting my bike serviced or a recall done as I get to try out a demo bike for the day :)
I would definitely buy again.
No major issues (touch wood), all minor issues were dealt with by the dealer.
Service cost were always very reasonable and they always provided a loaner bike free of charge.
great value for money in my opinion.
No, I would not buy it again. I had so much pleasure out of it I gave it to my grandson and bought the 310GS. I don’t live in a cold climate and probably bought my bikes after the initial teething troubles were detected and handled so I have had no hassles. As the man said, great value for money.

I would buy again, love the wee bike,it does the job....(y)

Changed the exhaust,K&N air filter, levers to shorties

Do a lot of runs with mates on bigger bikes & still grin every time I take it out:p
Any difference adding the K&N?
After 5k miles after the alternator problem I’m having lots of fun on it and actually put more miles on is than my other 2 motorcycles probably because of the virus . I don’t use it for touring . I put a Volt meter on it so I know what going on . I would have to say YES I would buy again. I like the looks get lot of comments At the gas stations and is the best handling one I ever owned. I’ve owned around 35 or so over my 49 years of owning motorcycles.

I bought a new 2021. The stator/alternator came apart and left me stranded at 2,000 miles on the ODO. Stalled out in the middle of the intersection. Had it replaced under warranty and did the same thing 800 miles later. Towed it to the dealer and traded it in at a significant loss on an RnineT. I had over $1,000 in upgrades on mine - engine guard, hand guards, skid plates, etc. I absolutely LOVED the idea of the bike - size, economy, style and ergonomics and would have ridden it until the wheels fell off. I took this thing on an adventure ride in the backcountry in Montana for a week (towed it up there) and it was a blast. Luckily when it broke down it was in the city, but still kind of scary in the middle of intersection. I just lost total confidence in it once it broke down twice and thought what the heck I would do out on the middle of nowhere if it broke down. Wasn't going to take the chance. The stator alternator issues is quite common and there is a good youtube video on it.

So, NO I would not buy again.

What made you buy BMW again after that experience? I will be keeping mine until the warranty runs out then will never ever consider or buy BMW again. They are just overpriced crap with an arrogant and uncaring dealer network!

Interesting to see a resurrected thread. I blow hot and cold about the G310R. My son shares it with me and finds it stalls too easily. Do not go on about learning to ride a bike etc. These things stall too easily full stop. Cold starting no longer a problem with 'thinner' oil. Gearing is all wrong in my opinion. A wider spacing with a taller top ratio would be nice. I do not enjoy the bike in stop start traffic or on fast roads. Plusses are light weight, decent economy, ok ride and handling, brakes fine. I would not buy again though and no one is interested in taking one in as a trade in. Overall decent but not great. Stalling is the main downer.
No I would not buy again, bought my 2018 GS new and put 9000km on it and just sold it. I never had a serious problem with it just too many little niggles and design flaws EG: air filter location, side stand too long, cheese alloy bars and BMW's attitude toward service. BMW spent to much effort on appearance and not enough on practicality.

...
I got tired of the strange gearing design. First gear is way too long and 6th is too short. Even if you change final ratio through sprokets, I didnt want to increase the revs at 110km more than what it was already running at stock.
....
Good points. I would rephrase this to say that the jump from 1->2 is way too long and the jump from 5->6 is too short.
BMW practical? Not since the Airhead and even those were considered over done by some.
BMW produces dual sport bikes in excess of 600 lbs…..practicle? No but what sells.
Once the soft suspension and teething issues addressed it’s a dang amazing bike to operate. I’d buy another in a heart beat. Problems experienced are no different than other brands. Heck peruse the boxer files on ADV rider, yikes! Brakes that stop working, funky camshaft wear, final drive failures, battery charging issues, countless computer issues. And that’s BMW flagship. Still a top seller. Don’t forget about internet magnification of issues. We don’t hear from the masses of folks who have a trouble free 310 experience. They don’t log in, having no troubles to research. The age of Wee bikes is coming but will fade out quick when electric bikes work out a few more issues (10 years?). So refreshing manufacturers are finally seeing that small is where it’s at. I wouldn’t purchase another 310 if there was a workable electric unit available.
